Work on the Coney Island Parachute Jump |
||
|
Over the past few months I have gotten several
questions about the Parachute Jump. Many people have visited Coney
or been driving on the highway and not seen it on the horizon. Well,
fear not! The Parachute Jump is going through a rehabilitation of
sorts. Funds were recently uncovered in a campaign spearheaded by
Brooklyn Borough President Mary Markowitz for a restoration of
"Brooklyn's Eiffel Tower." Currently the famous attraction
is being strengthened by new steel where necessary and completed
sandblasted and repainted. With any luck it will be towering above
the beaches of Coney Island within a few months. There are some
rumors that long-term there are plans to rehabilitate and re-open the
ride. Whether that happens or not still remains to be seen, but it
is great that such a great landmark of New York City is being cared
for. A few pictures are below (click on them for higher-res.
