Riverview Park

Riverview Park from the sky ride.  From left to right we see the Shoot-the-Chutes, the Paratrooper and the Comet roller coaster.

While many amusement parks capture the collective love of a city, few parks were so wholly embraced like Riverview Park of Chicago, Illinois.  Called the Kingdom of Magic in local advertisements, Riverview has fans among those who visited the park and those who wish they had.  The park operated from 1903 (or 1904, depending on which source you use) through 1967.  Part of the reason this park is so fabled is because it it closed very suddenly after the 1967 season ended.  Many felt that their park had been ripped from them and were upset that they could not pay their respects to the Bobs, Aladdin's Castle, the carousel and many other attractions.  This site will not try to give a complete history of Riverview Park because that is been done well, mostly in the book by Ralph Lopez and Derek Gee, Laugh Your Troubles Away: The Complete History of Riverview Park.  Here you can learn more about the Bobs roller coaster, the famous Riverview Carousel, some attractions from the park and find out what stands on the grounds of Riverview today.  As the advertisements used to say, Riverview was "Fun for All!"
