Frederick Thompson, a failed
architect with a drinking problem, created one of the most extravagant
amusement parks in the world within the walls of Luna Park. It was
more like a dream world as many types of architecture sat juxtaposed to
one another. In this article, Thompson told the readers of The
Independent (June 20, 1907) his philosophy behind running a park at
Coney Island. The jovial designer gave a great look into his
reasoning behind the Luna Park experience and about how the "spirit
of the Island" had changed in the short time he had been there (four
years). Enjoy this wonderful piece.
